Final Jubilee Closing Eucharistic Procession

It is with great excitement and with gratitude to every blessing that the Jubilee Year has brought thus far, that we announce a Eucharistic Procession to the Cathedral St Mary of the Flight into Egypt, on 28 December 2025.

This procession starts spiritually in our homes and parish communities, as we approach the season of Advent and contemplate the particular mystery of the incarnation – that is the birth of our Saviour – the cause of our joy!

We invite all parishes in the Archdiocese of Cape Town to bring their participation in this Jubilee Year to a solemn conclusion in a show of unity and prayer. Walking with each other and in closeness with the Eucharistic Lord.

To participate in this culminating event of the Jubilee Year please note the following:

SUNDAY, 28 DECEMBER 2025

We gather at 2:00 pm and the Procession begins at 3 PM (estimated duration is 2 hours)

ROUTE: 

START: Holy Cross Church, District Six, 31 Upper Nile  Street District Six.

END: St. Mary of the Flight into Egypt, Cathedral, Roeland Street.

MARSHALS/MEDICS:

There will be a small team of marshals and medics that will ensure safety of proceedings; however,
each parish is requested to have at least 1 marshal for every 10 people they bring.
These instructions from team coordinators before procession begins. Please submit name and contact
of your parish contact person and marshals to Coral Fisher at the Chancery on 021 462 2417 or apc@adtc.org.za

TRANSPORT:

Parishes are requested to make their own suitable arrangements for pick-up and drop-off, parking for  busses will be allocated for drop-off in Nile Street and pick-up opposite the Cathedral.

ATTIRE:

Participants are requested to dress appropriately according to weather conditions, preferably wearing
white tops (to signify ‘peace’) with comfortable walking shoes.
Religious and clergy are requested to wear their respective religious or clerical attire.

PERSONAL CARE:

Participants on medication or with special needs, will need to be carefully advised and cared for personally by respective accompaniment on parish level. A few general medical personnel will be around to assist in a case of emergency, with an emergency vehicle. Participants are encouraged to bring along water bottles, energy drinks and/or walking aids. Some portable public ablution facilities will be available at the departure and arrival points of the procession.

PROCESSIONAL GUIDELINES:

Participants are encouraged to keep maintain a spirit of prayer during the procession, and participate accordingly with the collective praying of the rosary or singing of hymns. Parishes, sodalities, Religious Orders and Congregations are welcome to walk along with their associated banners. Please, however, avoid bringing items or banners promoting a political party or slogan. Proceedings will conclude with a solemn benediction from the door of the Cathedral.
