Pilgrim Passport

HomePilgrim Passport

Overview

To commemorate the Jubilee Year, we have developed a Jubilee Passport. The concept is very simple and similar to the one used on famous pilgrimages, like the Camino de Santiago in Spain, where people collect stamps of different places as they journey on their pilgrimage towards the Cathedral of Santiago (St James) de Compostela. If you have been on such a pilgrimage, you will surely have gathered stamps at each place and look back now on your journey with precious memories of moments, people, places and encounters with God.

Because of how special the Jubilee year is and because we have so many special events and designated places to visit in our Archdiocese for this holy year, we have created this Jubilee Passport that will be a souvenir of your personal journey as a Pilgrim of Hope.

How does it work

You can get your Passport from the Cathedral. It costs R10 per Passport.

As you attend special Jubilee events or pilgrimage to designated places, you will be able to collect stickers that you can paste into your passport which will serve as a reminder to you of your personal pilgrimage. There are some Archdiocese places and events that are designated in the Jubilee year. Deaneries are also organising events within the deaneries for the Jubilee.

Some examples of Jubilee events are

  • The Opening Jubilee Mass on 31 Dec at 10:30 at the Cathedral of St Mary’s in Cape Town
  • The Jubilee Mass scheduled for 14 Sept
  • Our Jubilee will end with a Jubilee Eucharistic Procession in January 2026
  • Special Pilgrimage are being offered at the Cathedral of St Mary’s for groups of people from parishes where they will have a tour of the Cathedral, confession will be offered as well as Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
  • The Teachers Masses are designated Jubilee events
  • There are several Youth events that will also be considered Jubilee designated events.

These are  a few examples and as the year progresses there will be many more occasions that will be added to the Jubilee calendar, to celebrate this very special year.

Everyone is encouraged to participate as fully as possible in the Jubilee. It is a year for us to journey together but also a year of pilgrimage for each person. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis has given the year the theme of “Pilgrims of Hope” and so as we travel along this road and as we bring carry the light of truth and God to places and people in despair, let us too carry with us a passport that will remind us in the future of this journey we travelled in 2025 – whether we go to Rome or stay at home!

Journey together

In Summary

  • Get your passport for R10 from the Cathedral – Contact Michelle Perry to order one for yourself or a batch for your parish.
  • At each event you go to, contact the designated Passport official or desk who will provide you with a sticker for your passport.
  • Place the sticker in your passport, write in it too, perhaps a phrase that struck you, or a moment when the Holy Spirit touched your heart.
  • If you run out of place to put stickers you can purchase a second (or third, or fourth…) Passport.
