The Jubilee tree planting initiative in the Archdiocese of Cape Town has taken off with resounding enthusiasm from the North to the South and the East to the West of the Archdiocese.
The Jubilee tree planting initiative in the Archdiocese of Cape Town has taken off with resounding enthusiasm from the North to the South and the East to the West of the Archdiocese. An anonymous donation, kindly made by an Archdiocese parishioner and some parish donations enabled the purchasing of indigenous trees for various parishes. The simultaneous City of Cape Town’s tree planting initiative to plant and look after trees in public spaces has been embraced by some parishes.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Retreat
Received their Brachyleana discolor Coastal Silver Oak and Father Cecil chose an appropriate position. The tree was planted was held on Friday 11 April as part of the Youth Group meeting. It was a moving and beautiful event.
Blessed Isadore parish in Masiphumelele
Received a donated Waterberry tree from Constantia Parish. The Southern Peninsular managed to receive three Milkwood trees donated by the City of Cape Town inline with their own tree planting initiative.

St Mary of the Angels in Athlone
Received an Ilex mitis – Cape Holly which was one of the anonymously donated trees. The Cape Holly was ceremoniously planted in a fitting and symbolic position during the Palm Sunday Celebrations.
NOAH in Athlone
Have been creating a food and tree garden for a year now and successfully planted a number of trees NOAH/CARITAS Tree planting at the beginning of Lent with a special prayer service lead by the NOAH Seniors.

Immaculate Conception Parish Priest in Parow
Father Dominic and parishioners planted a Jubilee Pilgrimage of Hope tree on 16 April. “We chose the Cape Ash, indiginous to South Africa, Ethiopia, Ugandia, and DRC, representing our diverse parishioners, for the shade it offers, berries that feed birds and the wood is great for furniture.”

Chose a Wild Peach – Kiggelaria Africa as their symbolic Jubilee Pilgrimage of Hope tree. Father David de Freitas blessed and planted the tree, with parisioners on Good Friday as Brother Sun rose above the mountain.

Many more trees have been planted and you are encouraged to take up this initiative any time through this Jubilee year and ensure that your parish has a symbol of this incredibly special moment – the year that Pope Francis, our Vicar of the Church, who intitated the Jubilee year, returned to God Our Father.
